The Canebière building in Marseille, built by Fernand Pouillon on the eve of the Algerian war. Envisaged as a quasi-opaque body that the camera explores from both inside and out, the building comes alive with sounds and voices, including that of James Baldwin. The shape of the hemicycle echoes the place where a society is built.
