Conversation with Isidora Ilić and guests (in English)

Since November 2024 in reaction to the collapse of the Novi Sad train station student-led protests have spread across Serbia. Demanding accountability from the authorities for the 16 victims, the protests quickly spread from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade to universities and high schools across the country. Started by daily traffic blockades, the movement grew into nationwide public acts of civil disobedience, engaging citizens, workers, farmers and receiving support from cultural workers and artists. Months of persistence of the movement and mobilising force resulted in violent use of force by the state against the demonstrators during the summer.

In conversation with filmmaker Isidora Ilić and guests we will discuss the occupation of faculties as a political strategy, the work required to keep alive a protest movement over time, and the international neglect towards the student-led protests.
